Severe storms roll through the Tri-State

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Severe storms that rolled through the Tri-state on Tuesday left thousands of people without power.

As of 1:25 p.m., Duke Energy was reporting over 42,000 customers are without power, with the majority of those being in Butler, Hamilton, Clermont and Warren counties.

A severe thunderstorm watch that was in effect for the majority of the Tri-State has been cancelled.

These storms produced heavy rain, lightning and high winds. Some wind gusts were reported at over 50 miles per hour, knocking down trees and power lines. There are also reports of minor flooding in Blue Ash, Sharonville, Maysville and Clermont County. A flood advisory is in effect for Clermont, Hamilton, Warren, Lewis and Mason counties.

The Blue Ash campus of the University of Cincinnati is on emergency power with no phone service. Repairs are expected to be completed by 3:30 p.m. The campus remains open.

FTA Awards $2.5 Million to Metro for Mini-Hybrid Buses

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has announced that Metro will receive $2.5 million through a State of Good Repair grant. Metro will use these funds to replace six older buses with "mini-hybrid" buses that will assist in "greening" the transit fleet by reducing emissions, fuel consumption, and maintenance costs.

Mini-hybrids are full-size buses with advanced thermal cooling systems that provide benefits similar to traditional hybrid buses, but at significant cost savings:

·         $240,000 per bus less than the cost of a traditional hybrid bus

·         $2,000 a year in fuel savings and improved operational performance per bus

·         Up to 10% fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to diesel bus

Inbound Columbia Parkway down to one lane for Friday rush hour

Inbound Columbia Parkway down to one lane for Friday rush hour

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The westbound curb lanes of Columbia Parkway between Martin Drive and the Third St./Fort Washington Way exit ramp are closed and will remain closed for morning rush hour on Friday.

As crews were cleaning up and ready to open Columbia Parkway after removing an unstable portion of the hillside that began moving earlier this week, the remaining hillside also began moving.  Engineers decided for the safety of the traveling public to put the lane closure back in place until the hillside can be stabilized again.  Crews will mobilize early Friday and begin work on removing the remaining unstable dirt.

Columbia Parkway is reduced down to one lane, between Martin Street and the Third Street exit.  All exit and entrance ramps will remain open at all times.  Drivers are encouraged to reduce their speed and use caution when approaching the closure area.

Reds game postponed Tuesday night

The double dose of heavy rain Tuesday afternoon and evening meant a rare postponement at Great American Ball Park.

It's only the Reds 6th postponement since opening GABP in 2003.

A make-up date for the Reds and Cubs has not been announced.

The Reds announced Bronson Arroyo will pitch Wednesday's game.

Elberon Avenue to finally reopen Saturday after landslides

Elberon Avenue to finally reopen Saturday after landslides

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - After being closed more than eight days, a major road from Downtown into Price Hill should go back in service Saturday.

Elberon Avenue, between Mt. Hope and Purcell avenues, is expected to reopen to traffic after 1 p.m. Saturday.

About 600 loads of soil had to be removed from the site. For comparison, only 98 loads of soil were removed after the Jan. 9, 2012, landslide on Columbia Parkway. As of Friday afternoon, there was one large tree that still had to be removed. Crews will also install erosion control at the site.

This area of Elberon has a history of active slides, and a year of unusually heavy rain accelerated the hillside's movement. The road was closed last Friday after torrential rains the preceding day.
