Lanes to close at night on 75 Downtown

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - –  Pavement work will require the following lane closures be in effect on Interstate 75 between Freeman Avenue and Eighth Street:

Week of August 22:  Northbound right lane and the left lane of the northbound I-71 ramp at Eighth Street closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
 
Weekend of August 26:  Southbound right lane from Freeman Avenue to Eighth Street closed from 7 p.m.  to 12 noon on Saturday, August 27, with second lane closing from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.; from 6 p.m. to 12 noon on Sunday, August 28, with second lane closing from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. and from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, August 29, with second lane closing from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, August 29.

The shoulder on northbound I-75 from Freeman Avenue to Eighth Street will remain closed until Friday, September 2.

Temporary closure of Lytle Tunnel this weekend

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The left lane on South Bound I-71 from the I-471 ramp location through the 3rd street tunnel will close at 11:00 pm on Saturday, August 20. It will reopen at 8:00 am on Sunday, August 21.

This closure is necessary to perform maintenance operations inside the tunnel.  The work will consist of the washing of the tunnel walls and a total relamping of the lighting inside the tunnel. 

In addition to the work in the tunnel area, crews will be on I-71 and I-75 repairing street light outages along the highway.

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Major work on I-75 between the Cut-in-the-Hill and the Ohio river will cause long delays on Northbound 75/71 in Kenton County, while work on the southbound side will also cause delays.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says:

•     This weekend beginning at 11:00 PM on Friday, August 19th thru 5:00 AM on Monday, August 22nd, traffic will be reduced to one lane between the Dixie Highway (Exit 188) and the Brent Spence Bridge. This closure is necessary in order to perform repairs to joints on the Brent Spence Bridge which were not originally part of this project.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Downtown-based First Student Incorporated, America's largest school bus company, has teamed with the National Safety Council to offer a one-stop shop for back-to-school safety information, www.nsc.org/back2school.

The site includes a variety of safety fact sheets, as well as a PSA that details what to do when you approach a school bus in your passenger vehicle.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Streetcar supporters gathered at 8th & Main Streets Tuesday as Mayor Mark Mallory, City Manager Milton Dohoney, Jr., and Metro CEO and General Manager Terry Garcia Crews unveiled the first station sign for the Cincinnati Streetcar. 

The signs are temporary markers so that people can see where the stops are and where the Streetcar will take them when it is built, assuming the project is not blocked.

“The whole goal of building the streetcar is to increase the transportation options for Cincinnati and to grow our economy by increasing our opportunity for commercial, residential and retail investment,’ Mayor Mark Mallory said.

Police arrive en masse to kick off sober driving campaign

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) - If you see dozens of police cars on the Newport riverfront Wednesday, it doesn't mean the end of a high-speed chase or another big movie being shot in the Tri-state.

The cars will be there to kick off the 2011 NHTSA Impaired Driving campaign, now known as "Drive Sober or Get pulled Over".

The effort will start August 19 and run through Labor Day, September 5th.

This year’s Tri-kickoff will happen Wednesday at Noon at Festival Park, near Newport on the Levee.  Police agencies from all three states will be there.

Signs to mark future Cincinnati Streetcar stops

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - On 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory, City Manager Milton Dohoney Jr., and Metro's CEO and General Manager Terry Garcia Crews will unveil the first Cincinnati Streetcar station sign in front of 801 Main St.

Supporters of the Streetcar system are welcome to attend this unveiling. These are temporary markers so that people can begin to understand the route and where the Streetcar will take them when it is built.

Throughout the rest of the day, more stations will continue to be showcased. Within the week, each station will have a colorful, visible sign so that everyone can see where they'll be able to board the Streetcar.
