Kroger on Board with Metro to Promote Conservation June 19 and 27

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) – The Anderson Towne Center Kroger store is partnering with Metro and Anderson Township to boost bus ridership at events on June 19 and 27, from 6-8 a.m., at the Anderson Center Station park & ride (7832 Five Mile, near Anderson Center). Anderson Township and Metro are encouraging more residents in the community to take advantage of the convenient and direct service to downtown.

First-time bus riders will receive a free round-trip ride on Rt. 30X, 75X and 81X express buses to try the Metro for their commute to work. The Anderson Towne Center Kroger store will provide free coffee and donuts for riders. People who bring a “bus buddy” or who recruit new riders are eligible to enter a drawing for a free Metro 30-day rolling pass. They also will also receive a free gallon of milk from the Anderson Towne Center Kroger if they show their bus sticker.

Say goodbye to Metro bus tokens

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  - Metro bus riders have until June 30 to say their goodbyes to tokens.

Metro is reminding passengers to use or exchange any remaining Metro tokens before the end of June. Metro fareboxes will no longer accept tokens after June 30. Metro sold its last token on Dec. 31, 2012.

Metro silver tokens may be used for a one-way, $1.75 ride within Zone 1 (City of Cincinnati) through June 30.

Sets of ten silver Metro tokens may be exchanged for 10-ride Zone 1 tickets at Metro’s sales office, 120 E. Fourth Street, Mercantile Building arcade downtown, weekdays 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., until Friday, June 28.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Metro’s regular summer service changes will go into effect on June 2. This will include minor running time adjustments on some routes to better serve our customers.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Several area businesses including Metro will be honored on Thurdsday for supporting bicycling for employees and visitors.

In its third year, the Bike Friendly Destinations Awards Program will honor more than 70 organizations, including the Metro and TANK bus systems.

“The Bike Friendly Destination program is growing stronger each year as we continue to make Greater Cincinnati a more bike-friendly community,” said Nern Ostendorf, executive director, Queen City Bike. “There are many benefits from using bicycle transportation and this program helps us to spread that message.”

The Bike Friendly Destinations Program was developed by Queen City Bike to encourage more people to commute to work and other destinations by bicycle.

Metro routes detoured for Memorial Day weekend

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Metro service will be detoured in downtown Cincinnati beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 24, through early morning on Tuesday, May 28, due to Taste of Cincinnati. Metro’s Government Square transit center on Fifth Street will be closed as part of the event.

On Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, Metro will operate on a holiday schedule. Metro’s administrative offices, call center, and sales office will be closed.

Bike and Ride FREE on Metro, TANK and CTC on May 17

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  To celebrate Bike to Work Day, bicycle commuters can ride free on Metro, the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) or Clermont Transportation Connection (CTC) on Friday, May 17, when they transport their bikes on the easy-to-use bus bike racks.

Bike racks are located on the front of all Metro, TANK and CTC buses and can be used at all bus stops including Government Square downtown. Each bike rack can accommodate two bikes. For safety reasons, bikes are not allowed on-board buses unless they can be folded and stowed under a seat.

Metro and TANK will also be at the Bike to Work Day Celebration on Washington Park on May 17, from noon to 1 p.m., to demonstrate the ease of biking and riding buses. Visit http://www.queencitybike.com/ for information on Cincinnati Bike Month activities.

Water main construction on Columbia Parkway this weekend

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Drivers traveling Columbia Parkway should be aware of construction activites that will be taking place all weekend.

A Greater Cincinnati Water Works water main project will begin on Friday, April 12 at 9:00pm, and continuing until Monday, April 15 at 5:00am.

Columbia Parkway will be reduced to one lane in each direction between downtown and Kemper Lane.  This is needed for the Eden Park Feeder Water Main project.
