Council member to announce Brent Spence improvements

Council member to announce Brent Spence improvements

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - After a man was killed early this summer when he was hit by a car that was hit by another car in the narrow lanes of the Brent Spence Bridge, Council Member and candidate Wendell Young advocated for some type of quick action to make the bridge immediately safer.

Now Young says he will announce the first of several safety improvements made to the Brent Spence Bridge Thursday — an “added lane” sign and an improved white channelization stripe, which will make the northbound merge onto the bridge safer, clearer, and easier for drivers to navigate.

“We all know how needed these safety improvements are. It seems that almost daily we are hearing about a wreck or worse on the Brent Spence Bridge, and after the tragedy earlier this year I knew we could not wait for a replacement bridge to start working to make it safer,” said Young.

County buying iPads for Children’s Services workers after child murder

CINCINNATI (FOX19) – The Hamilton County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the purchase of iPads, service plans and system upgrades for Hamilton County Job and Family Services Children Services Division field workers in their Weddnesday meeting.

Commission President Greg Hartmann proposed purchasing the technology upgrades, which will assist these front-line workers with more efficient management of their caseloads.

The issue of technology for field workers came up after 2-year-old Damarcus Jackson died shortly after being places with his father after being in foster care; his father has been charged with aggravated murder.

“Our Children Services Division, like almost every area of County government during this economic downturn, has seen unprecedented reductions in staffing since 2007,” Hartmann said.

Mayor Mallory to host transportation forum Tuesday

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Mayor Mark Mallory is hosting a Transportation Forum at Union Terminal featuring a presentation by Congressman Earl Blumenauer.  The Congressman’s topic is: A Balanced Transportation System Leads to Job Creation and Economic Development.  The forum is an opportunity to learn about how other cities across the country have used public transportation systems as catalysts for growing their economies.

Oregon is home to the Portland light rail system, which has been cited as a model for transportation development here.

Congressman Blumenauer has represented Oregon’s Third District for 15 years.  He currently serves on the Budget, and Ways and Means Committees.  From 1996-2007, he served on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee where he was a strong advocate for federal policies that address transportation alternatives.

All seats for the event have already been allocated.

Murray spells out her bio in plain Japanese

Murray spells out her bio in plain Japanese

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - It's probably a first: a Cincinnati Council candidate: putting part of her commercial in Japanese.

Besides highlighting the fact that Murray learned some Japanese for her old job at P&G, she says that some of her fellow council members are speaking what sounds like a foreign language to her, presumably something other than Japanese, when they should just be talking: "jobs."

Murray, a Republican, was appointed to council when Chris Monzel left.  Besides her business background, she once headed Hyde Park 's community council.
