Local cook competes for National Student Chef of the Year Award

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Four chefs-in-training will compete July 16 for the title of American Culinary Federation Student Chef of the Year.

One of those chefs is Loveland native and current cook at Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza Thomas Groves.  Thomas fell in love with cooking when he was a child, often helping his mother prepare dinner. He earned an associate degree in culinary arts from The Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, N.Y., in June 2011.

Groves culinary experience includes working for an independent family-owned restaurant and a hotel chain/fine-dining restaurant. One of his greatest accomplishments was serving as apprentice to Todd Kelly, 2011 U.S.A.’s Chef of the Year™.

Groves is not sure where his future will take him—perhaps to another country to cook or back to school—but for now he is working hard to pay off student loans and learn from Kelly and the culinary team at Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza.
