CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Meet local author Joani Lacy at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Main Library and learn about the newest and final installment to her Hollister House series, "The Witch and the Banyan Tree." The author will be signing books.

Metro wins advertising award from American Public Transportation Association

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  — Cincinnati Metro received first-place honors in the 2012 AdWheel Awards, presented by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA).

Metro received the award for its 2011 Promotional Campaign known as “Money Grab,” which included a contest that asked Cincinnatians what they would do with the money they save by riding Metro. Three contest finalists went into a money machine on the Fountain Square stage for a chance to grab up to $4,500 in cash, provided by Cricket Wireless. The contest was designed to remind commuters how much money they can save by riding Metro instead of driving. No public or Metro funds were used in the contest.

Metro Marketing Director Dave Etienne, a Fort Thomas, Ky. resident, coordinated the campaign and submitted the nomination for marketing and communications efforts for public transportation systems with more than 4 million, but fewer than 20 million passenger trips annually.

Man eats 32 brats in 10 minutes, wins championship

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -Joey "Jaws" Chestnut, the top ranked competitive eater in the world, was the champion of today's bratwurst eating contest at Oktoberfest Zinzinnati. This is Chestnut's third-straight World Bratwurst Eating Championship.

Chestnut did have some good competition in Tim "Gravy" Brown, who also consumed 32 brats in the regulation 10 minutes. Chestnut beat him in the overtime tie breaker, eating five brats to Brown's 3.5 in a one minute eat-off. That means Chestnut ate 37 total brats, which is short of his world record 42.

The twelve contestants ate a total of 177.5 bratwurst, and were cheered on my about 4,000 fans.

The "LA Beast," Kevin Strahle came in third eating 24 brats, followed by Andrew Kogutkiewicz with 16.5.

Mason fourth grader to throw out first pitch at Reds game

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Mason Intermediate fourth grader Gracie Bagadiong will throw out the first pitch during the Red’s game against the Dodgers on Sunday, September 23.

Gracie has an undiagnosed neuromuscular disorder that affects her ability to walk and maintain her balance, and she has required a ventilator since November 2010. She's in a wheelchair without the use of her arms, and though her legs are strong she cannot walk independently. She's deaf, but speaks as her mode of communication. She has low vision, but paints and does her school work on a computer using a mouthstick. She’s awesome at math, and is a cheerleader for TNT Nitro Elite in Maineville. Overall, she's a smart, cute, and hilarious little girl whose tons of friends can’t wait watch her on the Jumbotron at Great American Ball Park!

Metro's Public Affairs Manager receives Mass Transit Magazine's 40 Under 40 Award

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) Jill Dunne, Metro’s Public Affairs Manager, was named to Mass Transit Magazine’s 40 Under 40 list, honoring professionals who have made significant contributions to the public transit industry. She is featured in the September/October 2012 issue and on Mass Transit’s website.

Dunne, a Fort Thomas, Ky. Resident, is responsible for managing and implementing media, public and community relations to increase awareness and drive ridership for Cincinnati Metro. She led the effort to redesign Metro’s website and manages Metro’s social media efforts. She joined Metro in 2010.

Honorees were nominated by their peers and judged on criteria that included job commitment, industry involvement and contribution, achievement in his or her position and innovation in his or her field.

The Christ Hospital CEO steps down after 10 years

MOUNT AUBURN, OH (FOX19) - The Christ Hospital announced on Monday that CEO Susan Croushore will leave the hospital September 3 after nearly 10 years in the position.

Croushore will serve as a senior adviser to the hospital through year-end. Glen Mayfield, Chair of The Christ Hospital Board, thanked Croushore for her contributions to the hospital during her tenure.

            “Susan has overseen a significant period of growth and change in her decade at The Christ Hospital,” Mayfield said. “Her personal knowledge and her passionate commitment to patients and to the community have been very much appreciated.”

With the direction of Croushore, the hospital managed transition to an independent community hospital and the development of a strategic plan that is positioning it as a regional community health system.

Best-selling author Amor Towles to visit Main Library

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Amor Towles, author of “Rules of Civility,” will visit the Main Library at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25. His debut novel, “Rules of Civility,” was published by Viking/Penguin in July 2011 and reached the bestseller lists of “The New York Times,” the “Boston Globe” and the “Los Angeles Times.” The book, which is being translated into 15 languages, was rated by “The Wall Street Journal” as one of the 10 best works of fiction in 2011.

Born in 1964, Amor Towles was raised in a suburb of Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated from Yale College and received an M.A. in English from Stanford University. He is a principal at an investment firm in Manhattan, where he lives with his wife and two children. He is on the boards of the Library of America and the Yale Art Gallery.
