The Art Academy of Cincinnati’s Pearlman Gallery presents “SAVED"

CINCINNATI (FOX 19) - The Art Academy of Cincinnati presents “SAVED,” an exhibition of installations, drawings and interactive elements by Debbie Brod, Kate Kern and Migiwa Orimo. The artists pose the question: “In a world of technological upheaval, what from the old world will be saved?” Each artist answers the question in her own way through art.

In this exhibition each artist uses a piece of communication technology from the recent past as a focal point for an installation. The phone booth, card catalog and typewriter still exist, but their once-central roles have been usurped by smart phones, search engines and personal computing devices.

The works presented share an exploration into the simultaneous inadequacy and necessity of language, as well as the use of a variety of high-tech and low-tech materials in a multi-media approach that is both conceptual and physical.

Stern is giving notice more than a year in advance so the Playhouse will have plenty of time to search for a replacement.  “I am making this announcement now so that the Playhouse Board of Directors has plenty of time to create a search committee, review a broad range of applicants and choose the best candidate to move the Playhouse forward,” Stern said.

Stern said he’s leaving theater management, but not theatre.  “I look forward to directing regional theatre and university projects, and not to be in charge of day-to-day operations anymore.
