CINCINNATI (F0X19) - City Council’s Major Transportation and Infrastructure Projects Subcommittee will hear an update on the new phased streetcar construction plan on Tuesday, as well as an update on the implementation of the city’s bike plan.

Last week, Mayor Mark Mallory and City Manager Milton Dohoney, Jr. unveiled a phased construction plan for the streetcar, in the wake of Governor John Kasich's recent position that resulted in the withdrawal of $52 million in project funding approved last year by a state panel that previously gave the streetcar project the highest ranking in the state.  The revised route through Downtown and Over-the-Rhine would be followed by extensions to the riverfront, and a second phase that will include the connection to Uptown and add an Uptown circulator.

The city is also exploring the option of a battery-powered car that could reduce both capital and operating costs for the project.

Tomorrow’s subcommittee meeting will give council members their first opportunity to ask questions of the streetcar project director, Chris Eilerman, about the new plan since it was released.

The meeting is at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10.  There is no public comment period at this subcommittee meeting.
