Commissioners, 3CDC reach agreement on Memorial Hall renovations | News
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)- The Hamilton County Board of Commissioners has unanimously approved a resolution in support of a Memorandum of Understanding and a lease agreement to provide the much-needed renovations to County-owned Memorial Hall.
The county is partnering with the Cincinnati Center City Development Corporation (3CDC).
Memorial Hall is a historic performance and exhibition space used to host concerts, shows and speaking events.
"The public-private partnership between 3CDC and Hamilton County will result in the preservation of historic Memorial Hall without the use of taxpayer dollars for the improvements," said Commissioner Greg Hartmann, who facilitated discussions with the Memorial Hall Society and 3CDC on behalf of the Board of Commissioners.
Memorial Hall is in need of several renovations, including a major systems overhaul of the roof, windows, facade work, floors, air conditioning and bathrooms. 3CDC will finance the capital improvements through a tax credit and will maintain the building's architectural integrity and significance.
In addition to financing the renovations at Memorial Hall, the partnership will also eliminate the County's operational funding for insurance and utilities at the Hall, which cost about $200,000 annually. The Memorial Hall Society plans to expand programming and events at the Hall to increase revenue and better utilize the space.
The partnership with 3CDC extends only to the renovations at Memorial Hall. The Hall will remain under the ownership of Hamilton County, and the Board of Commissioners will have final say over the increased programming at the Hall.
The Memorial Hall Society is also accepting donations for improvements, with all proceeds directly supporting the preservation of Cincinnati Memorial Hall. Those interested can do so by calling (513) 381-0348 or mailing a check to the following address:
