The new agreement ensures that 400,000 Tri-State residents can continue using UC Health’s network of hospitals and physicians, including UC Physicians, University Hospital in Corryville, Drake Center in Carthage, and West Chester Hospital and University Pointe Surgical Hospital in West Chester.

“We are very pleased to continue our relationship with Humana, and that nearly half a million citizens will continue to be able to visit their preferred UC Physician or UC Health hospital, including the region’s only academic medical center,” said James A. Young holds hearing on "food deserts" in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Councilman Wendell Young, Chair of the Rules and Government Operations Committee, has invited the Center for Closing the Health Gap to provide an update on the City’s Food Access Task Force recommendations, which address Food Deserts in Cincinnati. Allison Karpyn, Director of the Food Trust Research and Evaluation, is working with the Center and will join the presentation.

"Food deserts" are areas in cities where there is a lack of large grocery stores with good produce selections, leaving the elderly, disabled and those who can't afford cars with convenient access only to small groceries and convenience store that have little in the way of fresh food and are often expensive.

Christ Hospital adds massage therapy to Birthing Center

Christ Hospital adds massage therapy to Birthing Center

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - With more demands to manage than ever before, it’s essential that women—especially new moms and women undergoing surgery—take time to heal and make the most of their hospital stay. Beginning Monday, Jan. 9, The Christ Hospital will offer in-room massage therapy to new mothers in the Birthing Center and to post-gynecologic surgery patients. Patients who receive in-room massage can benefit from enhanced muscle recovery, better sleep and reduced anxiety. This can contribute to reduced pain medication and shortened length of stay.

The Christ Hospital is the first hospital in Ohio to contract with Bavia to provide these services designed specifically to address the emotional and physical needs of women undergoing childbirth or surgery. Bavia also supports patient satisfaction by transforming the typical hospital stay into a healing retreat with soft music, aromatherapy, candlelight and therapeutic massage.

There's a shot for flu, but not for most diseases from a dirty desk

There's a shot for flu, but not for most diseases from a dirty desk

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The public health message about getting a flu shot is drilled into us at this point, and this far into the season, everyone who wants one should have received one.

Although the shot is usually effective, it does little to keep us safe from the bacteria and germs that cause other uncomfortable illnesses, like a cold or even pneumonia, which has made its rounds this season.

“Additionally with the cold weather, we’re beginning to ‘hide’ indoors, both at work and at home, surrounding ourselves with stale, warm air, which can carry germs, and putting ourselves in the center of germ hot spots that we may or may not recognize,” says Sri Murthy, MD, UC Health primary care physician who sees patients in West Chester.

Murthy says there are steps to avoiding illness this winter, and it starts with one simple habit.
