Teen financial literacy focus of summer workshops at Public Library

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County was one of 14 public libraries nationwide chosen through a competitive process to win a grant to fund “Smart investing@your library®” teen workshops at selected branch locations.

The $57,853 grant was awarded from the American Library Association (ALA) in partnership with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Investor Education Foundation. The Library will work with The Ohio State University Extension Office to develop and present the workshops, which were created to improve teen financial literacy.

“It’s an honor to be selected for this generous grant from the FINRA Investor Education Foundation. We’re excited to deliver information that helps teenagers build a brighter financial future,” said Kimber L. Fender, the Eva Jane Romaine Coombe Director of the Library.

Gateway April 30 Expo Connects Parents with Employers

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) — Students and parents attending the Advanced Manufacturing Expo at Gateway Community and Technical College April 30 can learn firsthand from local manufacturers about the bright job outlook for manufacturing careers.

Six local employers are scheduled to attend the education expo at Gateway’s Boone Campus in Florence April 30. They include DHL, Mubea, Mazak, Ellison Group, the Center for Integrative Natural Science and Mathematics, and Virtual Manufacturing Services.

The expo is open to the public and begins at 5 p.m. Participants can tour Gateway’s high-tech Integrated Manufacturing Center, Computerized Manufacturing and Machining Lab, and Welding Lab between 5 and 6 p.m., and meet with local employers between 6 and 7 p.m. Gateway will conduct an information session on college credit that can be earned in high school from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Apprenticeship information will be shared from 6:30 to 7 p.m.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Tri State Latino cultural festival Cincy-Cinco will celebrate 10 years of showcasing culture, values and traditions.

Cincy-Cinco si retunring to Fountain Square on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5. The event will run Noon to 11pm on Saturday and Noon to 7pm on Sunday.

“This is our 10th anniversary,“ said Neil Comber, co-chair of Cincy-Cinco, adding “we are proud to have been able to share the finest of Latino culture and traditions with all the Cincinnati community for this many years.”

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  - Author Heather Shumaker will be at the Blue Ash Branch Library at 7 p.m. Monday, April 29.  She will talk about her book, “It’s OK Not To Share and Other Renegade Rules for Raising Competent and Compassionate Kids."

Popular Nickelodeon band coming to the Taft Theatre

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A music group that caters to the pre school set and their families will bring their live show to Cincinnati early next year.

Nickelodeon's The Fresh Beat Band, who star in their own hit television series will have a concert on January 22, 2014 at the Taft Theatre.

Gateway April 30 Expo Highlights Career, Education Opportunities to Students, Parents

Florence, KY (April 11, 2013) – Gateway Community and Technical College will host an evening for high school students and their parents to tour the college’s high-performance labs and learn about manufacturing careers, college credit available in high school, and apprenticeships.  The Advanced Manufacturing Expo is April 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Center for Advanced Manufacturing on the Boone Campus, 500 Technology Way, Florence.

The event is free and open to the public. No reservations are needed. In addition to college officials, Gateway’s industry partners will be on hand to discuss career opportunities and educational requirements with parents and students.

“The expo is designed to give parents and students a chance to learn more about the exciting and high-paying careers that are available in the high-performance production environment,” said Carissa Schutzman, Gateway’s dean of Workforce Solutions.
