Costume Contest on Fountain Square

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Come down to Fountain Square on Friday, October 22 dressed in your Halloween best. A costume contest is being held at Noon on the Square. Judges will be looking for the most creative, funniest or scariest costume. Bring a friend to dress as a couple or bring the whole office and dress as a team! Prizes will be awarded in these seven categories:

  • Most Creative
  • Funniest
  • Scariest
  • Best Couple
  • Best Team (3 or more people in same theme, e.g. Wizard of Oz)
  • Best Kids Costume (children 15 & under)
  • Best Overall

Winners in each category will receive a $25 Cappel's gift card, and the Best Overall winner receives $100 cash!

Investigate the Mysterious and Paranormal @ the Public Library

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - What Keeps Armchair Detectives Up at Night? Learn about what keeps armchair detectives awake at night with local author J.T. Townsend at select Library locations. He will exhume the details of 13 high profile yet unsolved murder cases in his book Queen City Gothic: Cincinnati’s Most Infamous Murder Mysteries. Cases include the murder of Greenhills High School cheerleader Patty Rebholz; the slaying of the Bricca family of Bridgetown and the Dummler Family of Mt. Lookout; the terror of the “Cincinnati Strangler;” and more.

SCPA student makes haunted house in backyard for 7th year

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - A 10th grade lighting design major at the School of Creative and Performing Arts is building a haunted house in his backyard at 5603 Greenacres Court in Green Township for the 7th year in a row.

Ryan Thierauf, 15,  began this House of Horrors Manor when he was 8 years old according to his mother.

The event will be Friday, October 29, Saturday, October 30, and Sunday, October 31.
From 6pm to 7:15pm the haunted house will be kid friendly. From 7:30pm to 10:30pm the haunted house will not be for kids.

U.C. students design for Retrofittings fashion show

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Hundreds of people will celebrate as fashion inspires the spirit of giving. St. Vincent De Paul's 8th annual Retrofittings Fashion Show is Thursday, October 14 in downtown Cincinnati. This fundraising fashion show is a partnership between the Society of St. Vincent De Paul, Cincinnati and the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art & Painting.

The event kicks off at the Hilton Netherland Plaza's Hall of Mirrors at 6:00p.m. The fashion show begins at 8:00p.m.

Highlights include, a New York style runway show featuring the creations of over 50 designers.

U.C. students were given a $10 dollar budget to create original fashions by combining items from St. Vincent thrift stores.

Guests will also enjoy a live auction, raffle, light food and cash bar. All proceeds benefit St. Vincent De Paul's programs to help local neighbors in need across Hamilton County.

Superman lands in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - It's a bird, it's a plane, it's Superman in the Queen City. The highly anticipated comic #703 that brings Superman to Cincinnati landed in stores on Wednesday. In celebration, the Man of Steel will make a live appearance at Up, Up & Away Comics in Cheviot. Superman will sign copies of the issue from 11am to 1pm and from 4pm to 6pm at the store located at 4016 Harrison Avenue. Mayor of Cheviot Sam Keller has issued a proclamation declaring October 13 "Superman Day."

Inside of this latest series, Superman is on a walking tour across America. Cincinnati is the third stop on his tour of the nation. Area landmarks featured include a barge on the Ohio River, the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge, PNC Bank building, the Scripps Center and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.

Queen City haunted tours begin Friday

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Come celebrate the Queen City's spooky past in Over-the-Rhine. Queen City Underground Tours begins its new "haunted" tour on Friday, October 8. There will be three one hour tours starting at 7:30, 8:30, and 9:30p.m. Each tour departs from the corner of 12th and Vine Streets.

The Queen City is Haunted walking tour takes you inside historic buildings where paranormal activity has recently been documented. This includes stories about ghostly sightings dating back to the mid-1800's.
