Flying Pig takes off at seven urban libraries to encourage kids to be fit | Events
CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is partnering with the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon and the Nutrition Council to help youngsters “Be Smart, Eat Well and Move More.” This year, as part of a pilot “Pig” program, kids can get JOIN IN at the Avondale, Clifton, Corryville, Price Hill, Walnut Hills, and West End branch libraries and the Main Library’s Children’s Learning Center.
Through May 5, kids (ages 5-12) are invited to keep track of the distances they move, the healthy food choices they make, and the time they spend exercising their brains with the Public Library by logging their efforts on the Kids Marathon “Hog Log,” available at all seven of these Library locations and online at www.flyingpigmarathon.com.
The Kids Marathon allows youngsters to finish the 26.2 miles of a marathon in incremental steps, a half-mile or a mile, throughout the weeks leading up to the Flying Pig Kids Marathon on May 5. Along the way, fun programming and incentives will be provided to help kids learn more about the impact of building healthy lifestyles while motivating them to complete their Hog Logs.
There will be a Pig Party Kickoff on Saturday, February 4, 2 p.m., at the Main Library, Children’s Learning Center, 9th & Vine Streets, which will include fun Pig games for the family, Flying Pig mascot race, free prizes & healthy refreshments. To learn more about healthy nutrition choices, tap into the vast reading resources and fun stuff from the Library by visiting Kidspace, the Library’s kid friendly website at http://kidspace.cincinnatilibrary.org.
