ATLA needs your donations to make next used book sale a success

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Have you started your spring cleaning early? Have your kids or teens outgrown their book and movie collections? Or maybe you’re downsizing from a house to a condo. Whatever the reason, the Anderson Township Library Association (ATLA) is looking for your books, CDs and DVDs.

Every year ATLA holds two used book sales to benefit the Anderson and Mt. Washington branch libraries. Last year the proceeds from the summer sale and the holiday sale totaled $40,000. Over the past 30 years, ATLA has raised more than $1 million in funds for the two libraries.

This money allows the two branch libraries to buy items and pay for programs that are not part of the regular budget. These purchases include computers and software, iPads, yoga classes, additional books and DVDs, puppet shows, and the Miss Liz music programs.

Cincinnati remembers Avtar Gill, The Hat Man

Cincinnati remembers Avtar Gill, The Hat Man

OVER THE RHINE, OH (FOX19) - A number of Cincinnatians came out on Saturday to pay tribute to a fixture in downtown life.

Around 50 people showed up at a memorial for Avtar Gill, also known as "The Hat Man," at Findlay Market on Saturday. Many wore hats with messages to and about Avtar. Some saying "RIP Avtar", "I heart Avtar", and still others with just a simple "thank you Avtar."

Cincinnati City Council members Chris Seelbach and P.G. Sittenfeld attended the event that was held Saturday afternoon in Findlay Market.

The event was created by a Facebook group named "Avtar Gill aka "The Hat Man of Cincinnati,"" where those who knew Avtar have been sharing pictures and memories.

Gill was known for wearing messages on hats at many Cincinnati events.

Avtar Gill died last weekend at a Budget Host motel where he had been staying. A hotel employee says that they are sad to see him go.
