Fire Musuem of Greater Cincinnati holding first ever summer camp

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Fire Musuem of Greater Cincinnati will host kids ages 8 -12 for its first ever summer camp.

Camp will be held for a one week session July 23 - 26 from 9am - 4pm at the W. Court Street location.

Fire Camp will encompass fire safety, fire science, community immersion and fine arts.  Your hero will enjoy fire fighter presentations, fire house visits, fire science experiment, Lego experience, lunch at Washington Park, Frisch Marionettes performance, environmental insight and much, much more.

The Fire Camp will feature experienced fire fighters, artists and community leaders. The fee for Fire Camp is $125.

Registration is open and on a first-come basis. The registration closing deadline is Tuesday, July 9.

Garden tour of Mount Adams coming up in June

MOUNT ADAMS, OH (FOX19) - Tour the gardens of Mount Adams while listening to live music and enjoying lite food and drinks on Tuesday, June 18.

The Mount Adams Sunset Garden Stroll is from 6pm - 9pm and will cover eight secret gardens.

Free Parking and minibus transportation will be available throughout Mt. Adams and tickets are $25 per person.

All proceeds support the planting and maintaining of the public gardens of Mt. Adams.

St. Vincent De Paul collecting for Oklahoma tornado relief

WEST END, OH (FOX19) - There are several local organizations offering up assistance to the victims of the tornado in Moore, Okla.

St. Vincent de Paul is collecting personal care items and toiletries, cleaning supplies, first aid supplies, blankets and baby care products.

St. Vincent De Paul is partnering with Matthew 25 Ministries to deliver these items to the affected area.

Annual OTR 5K run and summer celebration being held Saturday

OVER-THE-RHINE, OH (FOX19) - The annual OTR 5K race kicks off on Saturday, May 18 at 10am.

Established in 2007, the “OTR 5K Run & Walk” serves to both highlight successes in the community and raise funds for the Over-the-Rhine Chamber of Commerce. This year’s race starts and finishes in Washington Park. Race to compete, or make the 2013 OTR 5K Run & Walk a family affair. Dogs and strollers are welcome. This year’s event features a children’s race, with varying age groups, and prizes.

Along with the race, a summer celebration is being held in Washington Park from 10am - 4pm.

The celebration will include, live music, an expanded fine art show, the City Flea, food, adult beverages, vendors, kids’ activities, and entertainment. Live bands lined up include; The Cincy Brass, DAAP Girls, Decker, Baoku & the Image Afro-Beat Band, The Tillers and Mia Carruthers.

Gateway Urban Center Kicks Off Healthy Happy Hour Series

COVINGTON, KY — Gateway Community and Technical College has begun a new Healthy Happy Hour Series of fun, informative family activities at its Urban Center in downtown Covington at 525 Scott Boulevard. The activities are free of charge and open to the public.

“The activities are designed to help Covington become a healthier, happier community,” said Michael Lee, Gateway director of inclusion and cultural initiatives. “They are part of our outreach to bring the community into Gateway where we make success happen.”

The series began May 7 with Zumba classes that continue for another five weeks on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. “It’s not too late to come and have fun in these Latin-inspired, dance-fitness classes led by licensed instructor Y’Vonne Burkart,” Lee said.

SCPA student chosen as Huggable Heroes finalist

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  - Local teenager and SCPA student Mariah Faith Reynolds is in the running for the Build-A Bear Workshop Community Service Award.

Mariah,14,  is the founder of  two philanthropic organizations, Just One Heart that honors the military and Glove One Another to clothe the homeless and help prepare disadvantaged students for school. Just One Heart sends Valentine's Day cards to the U.S. armed forces and veterans. Through Glove One Another, Maria collects coats, socks, gloves, hats, books and school supplies. Mariah has raised $121,000 and collected 41,000 items for her causes.

After more than 1,000 applications were received, Mariah is one of 30 young leaders being recognized for making a positive impact on their communities and around the world.

Ten Huggable Heroes winners will be announced this summer.
