Gateway Schedules Kentucky Plumbing Code Course in January

FLORENCE KY (Dec. 21, 2012)—The Workforce Solutions Division of Gateway Community and Technical College will teach a Kentucky Plumbing Code Course from Jan. 15 to Feb. 21, 2013, at its Boone Campus in Florence.  

The course will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. at Classroom and Training Building  at 510 Technology Way on the Boone Campus. The cost of the course is $150 per person, and books will be provided. The registration deadline is Jan. 8, 2013.

Bank of Kentucky Invests $1 Million in Gateway Urban Campus

COVINGTON, KY – The Bank of Kentucky, Inc., has committed $1 million to the Gateway Community and Technical College Foundation for use in developing Gateway’s Urban Campus in downtown Covington. The gift is the first investment of $1 million or more ever received by the college or the foundation.  It is the latest in series of major announcements related to the campus in recent weeks.

“The Bank of Kentucky is pleased to make this investment to assist the college in its goal to make higher education more accessible to the residents of the urban core,” said Robert W. Zapp, president of The Bank of Kentucky. “We believe strongly in the concept of the Urban Campus and the positive influence it will have on the revitalization and future growth of the city and the region, as well as the opportunities it will provide for students.”

Public Library receives $111,000 from Duke Energy for reducing energy consumption

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - On December 11, Duke Energy presented the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County with a check for $111,000 as a rebate for reducing energy consumption at the Main Library.

These savings resulted from the Library’s participation in Duke Energy’s SmartBuilding Advantage ® program. This program used building energy usage interval data and on-site assessments to identify and analyze energy efficiency opportunities at the Main Library. Following program recommendations, the Library replaced T12 lights with T8 lights and implemented improvements to its boiler plant in order to generate the highest energy savings in the shortest amount of time for the lowest cost.

Gateway's Manufacturing Pipeline Initiatives Judged Best in the Nation

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) – The Workforce Solutions Division of Gateway Community and Technical College has won a national award from the National Council for Workforce Education (NCWE) for the college’s efforts to recruit and prepare workers for manufacturing jobs.

Gateway received the NCWE 2012 Exemplary Program Award for a Credit Workforce Development Program for its Manufacturing Pipeline Initiatives program that offers academic credit for customized skill upgrade training. The initiative uses customized technical and performance skill training, apprenticeship programs, academic advisors at company sites, and career mapping sessions for incumbent workers to expand the pipeline of qualified workers for regional manufacturers. In addition, the college has created several new manufacturing certificates.

Gateway launches three certificates as part of new instructional design program

Covington, Ky. (Dec. 5, 2012) – Gateway Community and Technical College is launching three certificates as part of a revolutionary new Instructional Design and Learning Technologies (IDL) program currently under development at the college.  Registration for the new certificates and the Spring 2013 semester, which begins Jan. 14, are currently under way.

The certificates include Foundations of Instructional Design, Instructional Facilitation and eLearning Developer.  The three are the first offerings in an IDL program being developed under a $4.9 million federal Department of Labor grant in partnership with Covington’s TiER1 Performance Solutions.

When fully implemented, the IDL program will be the first of its kind at the associate degree level in the nation, according to Josh Heinrich, program coordinator.

Gateway Offers SHRM® Certification Prep Course

Florence, Ky. (Dec. 3, 2012) -- Gateway Community & Technical College, through its Workforce Solutions Division, will offer  a human resources professional training program, the SHRM® Learning System Course, beginning February 12, 2013.  

The SHRM® Learning System Course offers an in-depth overview of key areas in human resource management. Materials include six modules that correspond to the six functional areas, responsibilities, and associated knowledge as defined by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).

OVER-THE-RHINE, OH (FOX19) - Independently owned businesses across the Tri State are inviting everyone to Shop Local and kick off the holiday shopping season on Saturday, November 17.

One of the areas in the Tri State that is bustling with small businesses is Over-the-Rhine. Cincinnati Unchained will celebrate its sixth annual event on Saturday.

If shoppers fill out a passport with stamps from participating local businesses from Cincinnati Unchained, they will be entered to win several gift baskets loaded with goodies from local merchants.
