Shop Local in Over-the-Rhine all over the Tri State on Saturday | Business

OVER-THE-RHINE, OH (FOX19) - Independently owned businesses across the Tri State are inviting everyone to Shop Local and kick off the holiday shopping season on Saturday, November 17.

One of the areas in the Tri State that is bustling with small businesses is Over-the-Rhine. Cincinnati Unchained will celebrate its sixth annual event on Saturday.

If shoppers fill out a passport with stamps from participating local businesses from Cincinnati Unchained, they will be entered to win several gift baskets loaded with goodies from local merchants.

“Over-the-Rhine’s renaissance continues to build momentum and we are thrilled to present so many opportunities for Cincinnatians to experience the neighborhood and support locally owned, independent businesses,” said Emilie Johnson, president of Over-the-Rhine Chamber of Commerce. “There are entertaining holiday events for all ages and shopping this holiday season in OTR supports our local economy without the hassle of dealing with big holiday crowds.”

Every dollar spent at a locally owned business generates approximately three times more economic activity than a dollar spent at the typical “big box” store. Local businesses produce more income, jobs and tax receipts for local communities. “Supporting local businesses preserves the economic diversity of communities and the unique character of our neighborhoods,” added Johnson.
