Second City to present second play about Cincinnati | Arts & Culture
Title (Max 100 Characters)
CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Second City, the world’s premier comedy company and school of improvisation, will once again set its razor-sharp sights on Cincinnati with The Second City 2: Less Pride... More Pork. This new show begins public previews April 29 and continues through July 1.
Last season’s custom production, The Second City Does Cincinnati: Pride and Porkopolis, broke box office records, becoming the longest-running, highest-grossing show in Thompson Shelterhouse show history.
“Not only did they set a record for us, but we also set a record for them. Cincinnati has the record for the longest run we've ever done for one of these shows,” said Kelly Leonard, The Second City’s executive vice president. “The audiences were fantastic and not afraid to share their own ideas for what we could be doing on stage. So we're thrilled to be able to come back and dole out more comedy for an audience that is so welcoming.”
Although The Second City has performed repeatedly in various cities with different types of shows, this is the only second time – Atlanta was the first – that they’ve produced an additional city-specific show.
To create the all-new show, The Second City sent two writers to Cincinnati for an “immersion,” or interaction with a wide array of Greater Cincinnatians during the last week of February. In the span of about 72 hours, Dana Quercioli and Ed Furman met politicians, journalists, business people, Playhouse patrons and residents spanning East, West and Northern Kentucky.
Following the two-act revue about Cincinnati, the Tuesday through Friday shows will offer post-show interactive improvisation sessions for those who wish to stay.
The cast of The Second City 2: Less Pride... More Pork includes Cody Dove, Sayjal Joshi, Amy Roeder, John Sabine, Tim Stoltenberg and Travis Turner.
Greater Cincinnati native Mick Napier will helm the production. Other members of the production team include Musical Director Matthew Loren Cohen and Lighting Designer Mark C. Williams. The Stage Manager is Andrea L. Shell.
Prices for The Second City 2: Less Pride... More Pork range from $25 - $74, depending on day and seat location, and are subject to change. Tickets are $25 for the preview performances at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 29; 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1 and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2. The official opening night is Thursday, May 3 at 8 p.m.
Performances take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, 4 and 8 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sundays.
