Michael Jackson tribute and Superheroes featured in next year's Pops season | Arts & Culture

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra has announced its 2012-2013 season presented by PNC – the second under the direction of Conductor John Morris Russell. The season, which will be the  final Pops season in Music Hall prior to the hall’s revitalization, includes nine concert programs, six of which will be conducted by Maestro Russell himself.

Highlights include a holiday program with six-time Grammy winner Amy Grant, a spectacular opening concert in September, Ballroom with a Twist, with talent from popular entertainment-themed reality shows (So You Think You Can Dance?, Dancing with the Stars, and American Idol), and a closing concert with Broadway, film and TV star Mandy Patinkin.

The Pops Remix series returns with Bond and Beyond, a program where the Pops performs the music that has made James Bond a man of mystery for 50 years. Also on this series is a concert with Judy Collins, a remarkable artist whose musical career has spanned every decade since the 60’s.

Closing out the Remix series is The Music of Michael Jackson featuring Delisco, where the Pops Orchestra celebrates the King of Pop.  Other guest stars include Patti Austin (singing the songbook of Ella Fitzgerald) and Irish international sensation The Chieftains.

Finally, Superheroes! brings the explosive and thrilling themes from new and classic superheroes – and their villains.

The season runs from September 2012 to April 2013, with 1 to three performances of each of the nine programs.  Season tickets run from $63 for a three-show package with seats high above the stage, to $661 for top seats for every show.  Subscribers also get various perks and discounts.
