Bromwell’s Gallery and Thunder-Sky, Inc. debut new art exhibit and documentary | Arts & Culture
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) – “Direct Contact: Self Made Pop” opens October 22, 2011 at Bromwell's Gallery with a reception 6 to 10 pm, on the second floor of Bromwell’s (117 West Fourth Street), the longest-running business in downtown Cincinnati. The show closes December 31, 2011.
On October 27, 2011, at 7 pm, also in the gallery, a new feature-length documentary about Raymond Thunder-Sky, titled Thunder-Sky, will be screened, with an introduction by its director Alfred Eaker, and a discussion afterward led by Steve Kissing. Bromwell’s Gallery’s mission is to bring Cincinnati fine art that is accessible to all art enthusiasts, and “Direct Contact” is an accessible, fun, unpretentious survey of art (co-curated by Bromwell’s Gallery and Thunder-Sky, Inc.) made by unconventional artists including Antonio Adams, Todd M. Coe, Cedric Cox, Tony Dotson, Dale Jackson, David Mack, Bill Ross, Spencer van der Zee, Michael Weber, Kevin White, and the late Brian Joiner and Raymond Thunder-Sky.
The central figure in "Direct Contact" is Raymond Thunder-Sky. Before passing away in 2004, Thunder-Sky walked around the city of Cincinnati for decades, often dressed in a clown/construction-worker costume; he would set up a drawing table in front of demolition sites and draw the destruction head-on, finishing each work in the privacy of his apartment. Thunder-Sky, a new documentary film by Alfred Eaker, features interviews with artists, friends, and construction workers who talk about their memories of encounters with Thunder-Sky. Also animated sequences (by Todd M. Coe, pictured above) featuring Thunder-Sky’s costumes and drawings are featured. The movie will be screened in conjunction with “Direct Contact “on October 27, 2011 at 7 pm. Discussion to follow at 8:30 pm.
Thunder-Sky, Inc.’s mission is to keep Thunder-Sky’s legacy alive through educational programs and exhibits, as well as showcasing and supporting unconventional artists like him from across the region. Bromwell's mission is to bring Cincinnati fine art that is accessible to all art enthusiasts.
