CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The week of Valentine's Day  is the perfect opportunity for the Cincinnati Ballet to tell one of the world's greatest love stories.

Performances of Romeo and Juliet are taking place Valentine’s Day weekend February 14, 8:00 p.m., February 15, 8:00 p.m. and February 16, 2:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m., 2013 at the Aronoff Center for the Arts.

The dance will come to life wirth live instrumentation by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

“Shakespeare was a theatrical storyteller,” says Morgan. “A brilliant, evocative writer, with double entendres and multiple layers of meaning through words, yet Romeo and Juliet at its very essence is a story so raw and visceral, focused on young, passionate, and obsessive love caught in the conflict between two rival houses. For me, it’s impossible to explore the story without imagining movement – whether it’s the slash and whip of a sword, a gut-wrenching cry to the heavens, or an eager embrace – Shakespeare provokes a reaction. It is a joy to give life to his words through dance.”

Cincinnati Ballet’s CEO and Artistic Director, Victoria Morgan, captures the story of the star-crossed lovers with her unique blend of dance and drama. Shakespeare’s tragic tale, written nearly 420 years ago, has not waned in its ability to captivate audiences with the unfolding of a great romance destined for the grave.
