Holtman's Donuts to open new shop in OTR

OVER-THE-RHINE, OH (FOX19) - A family-owned pastry shop is setting up space in Over-the Rhine.

Holtman’s Donuts signed a lease Tuesday morning at 1332 Vine Street on the ground floor of the Trinity Flats building at Mercer and Vine streets in OTR.

Donuts will be made fresh daily on-site, and the shop hours will likely mirror those of the Loveland store, open from 4:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. some nights.

Charles Holtman started the business in 1960, and his daughter and son-in-law, Toni and Chuck Plazarin, now operate two Holtman’s Donuts in Loveland, Ohio and Williamsburg, Ohio. Toni and Chuck’s son, Danny Plazarin, will open the new location with his fiancé, this summer.

SCPA student chosen as Huggable Heroes finalist

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)  - Local teenager and SCPA student Mariah Faith Reynolds is in the running for the Build-A Bear Workshop Community Service Award.

Mariah,14,  is the founder of  two philanthropic organizations, Just One Heart that honors the military and Glove One Another to clothe the homeless and help prepare disadvantaged students for school. Just One Heart sends Valentine's Day cards to the U.S. armed forces and veterans. Through Glove One Another, Maria collects coats, socks, gloves, hats, books and school supplies. Mariah has raised $121,000 and collected 41,000 items for her causes.

After more than 1,000 applications were received, Mariah is one of 30 young leaders being recognized for making a positive impact on their communities and around the world.

Ten Huggable Heroes winners will be announced this summer.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - As a finalie event to National Women’s Health Week, Cincy Chic is hosting its second annual Women's Health Expo at The Phoenix Saturday May 18 from 10am-3pm.

The free event offers attendees healthy treats, 10-minute massages, and shopping at various pop-up boutiques. In addition, the event will host various health screenings, including the St. Elizabeth Healthcare mammogram van, as well as health-enhancing seminars with local physicians. Every attendee will receive a complimentary swag bag and be entered to win a $500 Paolo Jewelers gift certificate.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - On May 8 the Public Library received a National Medal for Library Service from the Institute for Museum and Library Service. This award is the nation’s highest honor recognizing museums and libraries for their service to the community.

To celebrate this national recognition and thank our community for their support, we're holding a Fine Amnesty Day on Wednesday, May 15. During Fine Amnesty Day, outstanding fines will be removed from library cards. The fines may be the result of items returned prior to or on May 15.

21c Museum Hotel Cocktail Terrace to open for season

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)- 21c Museum Hotel Cincinnati's rooftop Cocktail Terrace is officially open for the season.

The terrace is located on the property's 11th floor and offers views of downtown Cincinnati and the surrounding area. The menu focuses on cocktails and also offers a small selection of snacks from chef Michael Paley and his team at Metropole. 

Cocktail Terrace features a rotating lineup of refreshing and tasty "poptails." These cooling popsicles act as ice, slowly melting into the accompanying cocktail. Offerings include Strawberry Mint served with Old Forester Bourbon; Lavender Blueberry Lemon served in vodka and Limoncello and two takes on classic summertime drinks, an Avocado Margarita and Piña Colada.

The menu also includes a rotating selection of warm weather cocktails including The Colonel with Bourbon, Luxardo cherry and orange and the Rum Dinger with rum, cantaloupe, basil and citrus. 

End of the road for Streetcar Project?

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)- Cincinnati City Council met Monday to discuss funding needed to continue the streetcar.

The $133 million project is facing an estimated $17.4 million deficit.

City Manager Milton Dohoney says if the money is not approved the project would be terminated, unless the federal officials approved a scope change which he says is unlikely.

Dohoney came up with multiple funding options, which he recommended to the mayor and council in a memo dated April 30.

Gateway to Recognize Outstanding Students at May 14 Awards Convocation

COVINGTON, KY — Gateway Community and Technical College will recognize the exemplary academic, leadership and technical performance of 188 students, including 106 scholarship recipients, Tuesday at its annual Night of Excellence. The convocation will take place at 7 p.m. at Notre Dame Academy in Park Hills, Ky.

Rani Clark and David Strange, both of Ft. Thomas, received top honors as recipients of the J.D. Patton Award for academic and technical excellence. The Phi Theta Kappa academic honorary earned the award for best student organization of the year.

Recipients are selected by faculty and staff committees and academic divisions based on student performance. Individual students receiving awards, include:
