Report: Cincinnati among top cities for air pollution

A new report is ranking Cincinnati as a top 10 city for air pollution.

The report was released by Wall St. 24/7 and studied particle pollution figures collected by the American Lung Association between 2009 and 2011.

For each metropolitan area, the ALA noted the population and the number of people in the area with health problems that high pollution can exacerbate, such as asthma and cardiovascular disease.

The Cincinnati-Middletown area was ranked 10th worst in the country, with a year round particle pollution rank of 10th worst, an unhealthy ozone pollution rank of 14th worst and 215,984 residents with asthma.

Bakersfield-Delano, Calif. was ranked the worst area for air pollution.

Crews hit the street for 'road repair season'

Part of W. McMillan was closed Tuesday after rain caused mud and debris to slide onto the road overnight.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)- Whether it's cleaning up a mudslide or repairing a pothole Superintendent of Traffic and Road Operation for Cincinnati Jarrod Bolden says, "We've completed more than 1,300 citizens complaints since the first of this year."

The weather is a major factor to how many repairs need to be made.

Bolden says, "If we have a hard winter, we may use more salt... which could be hard on the streets... which could cause pot holes."

This year's winter wasn't as severe as years past. As a result, there was less damage done to the roads.

"I think the mild winters have helped us a little bit," added Bolden.

In addition, less money spent salting and plowing may translate into more work for road projects or repairs like a mudslide that happened near Clifton on Tuesday.
